Sizzling Summer Networking

Every busy professional can make summer connections that lead their best year yet! No doubt you are thinking, “Summer, finally!” now that the warmer weather is arriving, school is out, and you are finishing up the first half of the year. But don’t let your strategies go on vacation over the summer months when you shift gears in your business.
Summer is an excellent time for professional development, re-visiting relationships with key strategic partners, and even connecting with customers. Here are a couple of my observations over my years in business development.
- Summer is a sweet time to connect socially with groups of people and reconnect.
- Summer is a sweet time to learn, read, and play with fresh ideas.
- Summer is a great time to visit new networking groups. The core group consistently attends all year long. You can meet the movers and shakers when there is less busy-ness.
Quick ideas to activate your summer networking:
- Consider creating a focused mastermind group of likeminded professionals to work on a focused goal over the summer.
- Learn something new. Take a webinar, join a business book club, ask your network what they are reading and request a summary.
- Collaborate with one of your clients or partners to put on a social fun event for your networks and/or your customers.
- Assemble a focus group of customers or potential customers to test a new idea, marketing strategy, or message.
I want to share an example. The SuperCharged Networking event we held partnered with Dessert Noir was fun (socially and professionally) and added value to the individuals and the community by raising $450 in 90 minutes for the local food bank. Great connections were made and fun was had by all.
Cool off, have fun, and make your summer connections work for you!
Happy summer networking!

The Gift that is You
I work with talented highly motivated people every day who are pursuing their dreams but are bogged down in the daily work of building a business. After spending a weekend at an executive coaching conference in Puerto Vallarta I gained some fresh perspective to see where I’d gotten bogged down in building mine.
Finding this recent blog post by Seth Godin, author of Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us, was quite refreshing.
Here is a quick excerpt…
You matter
When you love the work you do and the people you do it with, you matter.
When you are so gracious and generous and aware that you think of other people before yourself, you matter.
When you leave the world a better place than you found it, you matter.
When you continue to raise the bar on what you do and how you do it, you matter.
When you teach and forgive and teach more before you rush to judge and demean, you matter.
When you touch the people in your life through your actions (and your words), you matter.
What I know for sure is that unleashing the gifts, talents, and the synthesis of your experiences are a killer formula for business. They give you distinction, positioning, pricing leverage, and have the ability to attract clients who love working with you!
Want to make more money and attract clients like a magnet? Pursue your gifts! Those things that make you uniquely you. People are attracted to passion and it’s expression.
Want to learn more about how you are wired? Check out StrengthsFinder 2.0 by Tom Rath. The online assessment (code is in the back of the book) gives you a report of your top 5 signature strength themes. Next find someone who administers the TTI DiSC Personality Profile like ReSet Solutions.
This economy is no different that any other. Dig deeper and pursue your passion to serve your customers, community, and yourself! Bottom line: You matter.
Unleash yourself to express your full potential. This is your edge in this economy.
